Overview

Founded in 1407, Oswestry is one of England's oldest schools and stands on the edge of a safe, typically English, old-fashioned market town surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in Britain. Historic it may be, with many traditional virtues encouraged, but Oswestry is also a warm, caring and progressive school which constantly evolves with the times. A-levels over the recent years have had a 97-100% pass rate and around 90% of GCSE grades were A-C.

Unique Points

There are four comfortable boarding houses on the School site, where boarders are cared for by attentive and dedicated house staff. Each boarding house has a resident Houseparent and Assistant Houseparents, and every pupil benefits from a high level of pastoral care. The Good Schools Guide described Oswestry as a "small, traditional British school...with a personal approach. Family values and a close-knit community breeds confidence and stability for all pupils...a home away from hone".

Entry Requirements

While the main points of entry into the School tend to be at the ages of 4, 10, 11, 13 or 16, in practice pupils may join us at any age and at any stage throughout the year provided there are places and the entry requirements are met. Boarders are accepted from the age of 10. We require all applicants, where possible, to attend an informal interview with the Headmaster. We also take the report from the current school into account, where applicable.  Prospective pupils are most welcome to spend a day in school with us, or an overnight stay in the case of boarders.Entry into the Sixth Form is dependent upon a good report from the previous school, an interview with the Headmaster, and satisfactory GCSE results. International students are welcome, with the Senior School and Sixth Forrm having 14 nationalities represented.
