Overview

The Sherborne community is a boys' full boarding school committed to providing an education, based on Christian values, that enriches boys' lives, develops their character, confidence and capacity to learn, and prepares them for the complex challenges and opportunities of modern adult life in an ever changing world. We want our boys to become men of distinction, with a strong sense of identity, integrity and purpose built on the values of leadership and service.

Unique Points

Sherborne is an independent boys' boarding school founded in 1550 under a Royal Charter granted by Edward VI. For 460 years we have educated boys in the shadow of Sherborne Abbey and have grown into a modern school of 595 boys and 96 teaching staff. Surrounded by the bustling market town of Sherborne and the rolling countryside of Dorset the School attracts pupils from all over the world. Shirburnians follow a diverse range of careers at the highest levels and include Actors, Poets, Diplomats, Bishops, Politicians, Journalists and Sports stars to name but a few.

Entry Requirements

Speakers of English as an Additional Language are set EAL entrance papers. There are separate papers for Lower School and Sixth Form. On the Common European Framework, we expect boys entering the Lower School to be at least B1. Boys entering the Sixth Form should be at least B2.
